BPM Interview:

Top Techno Artist and owner of the Hazchem and COSHH record labels D.D.R takes a few minutes to talk to Mad Iccy.

Iccy

Who or What first got you interested in Dance Music and the Acid Techno scene in Particular?

D.D.R

Moving to London, ecstasy, squat raves (in that order).

Iccy

As you seem to spend most of your time in the studio, what keeps you going?

D.D.R

Food, drugs, squat raves, shags and beer (in any order).

Iccy

So who or what are your main influences musically?

D.D.R

Got into punk when I was a teenager, then went on to Hendrix (still god!!), Hawkwind-type rock and then raving.

Iccy

Where did you play your first live gig and how did it go?

D.D.R

It was in a tent in a friend's back garden, it was her birthday and I played the drums in a dodgy schoolboy punk band. I was too pissed to remember how it went.

Iccy

Is there anyone in particular you would most like to work with?

D.D.R

Not really, they are either dead or too old...

Iccy

Have you got any new projects coming up (especially secret ones) coming up and would you like to tell me about them? (I am a Tractor so you can trust me).

D.D.R

Got a surf release on coshh coming up and the long-awaited "return of hazchem" (at last)

Iccy

Where do you see your music taking you in the future?

D.D.R

Anywhere they will have me.

Iccy

Is the London Acid Techno scene still as kicking as it was, say two years ago?

D.D.R

The parties go on strong as ever, big get-togethers with several rigs happen practically every week.

Iccy

The South West is renowned for being very hard to make a career in music, do you have any advice for up n' coming DJs and musicians other than not living here?

D.D.R

Don't give up.

Iccy

Can we be expecting to see you in these parts (Devon) again and if so why?

D.D.R

Hopefully I will get an invite to play somewhere soon...

Iccy

Can I ask for a few favourite thingys?

D.D.R

Not on your nellie.

Iccy

Oh well I'm going to anyway...

1: Studio

Kinetec, I built it myself so everything is at the right height.

2: Artist:

Damien Hirst, sawing animals in half in the name of (f)art.

3: DJ:

John Peel, still the most 'avin' it.

4: Live Band:

All dead or too old.

5: Label:

the ones that come on bottles of beer.

6: Club or Venue:

Various empty buildings in and around London.

7: Food:

All of it except bean sprouts, celery and invertebrates (the slimy little mother-fuckers).

Iccy

And on the subject of food do you like Cauliflower Cheese?

D.D.R

Oh, yes.

Iccy

Anything else you may want to add...?

D.D.R

Some roast tatties, beef, Yorkshire puds, baked veggies and gravy tell me when it will be ready and I'll be round...
