I don't know how they did it, but somehow MFSL made this disc sound as though they had either zapped their own recording equipment back in time to record these sessions, or brought Marianne Faithful forward to record with them in a modern studio.
The tracks here are super clean without losing any of the depth or vitality of the band (especially the wonderful guitar work of Bill Frisell and the equally wonderful piano work of Mac Rebennack), and mixed exactly as they should be. Both the groundbreaking "Broken English" album and "Strange Weather", her collection of cover standards ranging from Ledbetter to Billie Holiday, are included here in their entirety, making for a nice contrast between the anger and power of the first against the sensitive, classic sound of the second.
