Beck - Odelay (Geffen)

This album is a collection of the all that is good and all that is bad about Beck.

When he is good he is very very good, but when he is bad he is rubbish. Generally he is good when he stops pissing around and sings proper songs, like Lord OnlyKnows, Jack-ass and Minus.

Things get bad when he either tries to rap (bad move, rich white boys can't rap) or starts experimenting. He experiments with guitars tuned à la Sonic Youth (i.e. not)and bad space-rock noise. He also tries his hand at a bit of industrial noise. Very, very bad moves.

Quit with the pissing around please, Mr Beck, and concentrate on what you're good at. That is, singing psychedelic folky, country-ish songs with a lot of wit and a ton of attitude.

Buy this on CD so you can programme out the rubbish.
