Mad Iccy catches up with the owner of Tortured Records and top name DJ and gives him the usual grilling.

Please tell me, in no more than 40 words, a little bit about yourself and what you do (as if we didn't know already).
Billy
My Name Is Billy Nasty, I've been DJing for the last 15 years, I own a record label called Tortured Records and I travel the world banging out techno to clubbers who are bored with the usual shite!

Who or what first got you interested in dance music and the techno scene in particular?
Billy
Jonathan Moore (Coldcut) and London's Rare Groove Dance scene ('84-'88).

As you seem to spend copious amounts of your time in the studio and DJing, what keeps you going?
Billy
The love of music, deadlines, responsibility.
Iccy
So, who or what are your main influences musically?
Billy
All the music I've loved, bought and played are my influences.
Iccy
Where did you play your first DJ set and how did it go?
Billy
African centre in Covent Garden - it went well but was hard work.
Iccy
Is there anyone in particular you would really like to work with?
Billy
Terry Hall (The Specials), Joe Strummer (The Clash), Kool Keith.

Have you got any new projects coming up (especially secret ones) coming up and would you like to tell me about them? (I am a deceitful little shite so you can't trust me).
Billy
I've just remixed Leftfield's 'double flash' for Sony Records with Richard Brown.

Would you like to tell me a little bit about your new album?
Billy
The new mix CD includes the best of the Tortured releases so far, mixed by my own fair hands.

Where do you see your music taking you in the future?
Billy
Around the world and back, as often as possible!

Is the scene in your area still as kicking as it was say two years ago?
Billy
I think its better this year, compared to the last.

The Southwest is renowned for being very hard to make a career in music, do you have any advice for up n' coming DJs and Musicians other than not living here and not behaving and looking like a complete redneck?
Billy
Just keep practising, giving out tapes and the longer it takes for you to get your chance the better you'll be.
