Various - The Slippery Ballerina (Casino Music)
As much as I hate it when reviewers claim a piece of music is an "instant classic," I can't think of any other way to describe this. Packaged as a children's story/album about a little girl who wants to be a ballerina, the cast features such luminaries as Moe Tucker, whose voice is absolutely exquisite and perfect in this, and the late Ian Dury as the droll narrator, to name just two. As the writer, Clay Harper, once described this to me, it's "a children's album written and performed by a bunch of pot-smoking, punk rock overall bad influences that eventually became parents themselves."
