The Queers - Beyond the Valley (Hopeless Records)

I like The Queers. Listening to them reminds me of being in love, feeling soppy and warm inside one day then angry and pissed off the next. And with this, album #I've-lost-count, again they have stuck to the same formula that works - brattish, Ramones-esque Punk Rock, but this time, with a difference. The Queers have at last come of age, becoming socially aware, intelligent in their lyrics, and I am pleased to be able to share with you, dear surfer, the wit and wisdom of The Queers.

Relationship difficulties 'Strangle the girl', an intelligent stand for meat-eaters everywhere 'Stupid fucking vegan', toning communication skills 'I just called to say Fuck You', tolerance and empathy towards female friends 'Babyface (Boo-Hoo-Hoo)' and addressing the ever-heated debate between the sexes 'My cunt's a cunt'. In a world where boy-bands poison the youth of today and clog the airwaves with Corporation-processed shit, it's refreshing to know that there are bands like The Queers who will forever raise their middle finger to the fatted calf of so-called popular music.
