eclectic method - The bootleg video mix
Their tongues are very obviously in their cheeks when the mix from Vanilla Ice into Eminem with the theme from "Knight Rider" under both. The Serious Mashup video is just what it says, all the different bits and pieces mashed up in a short sharp blast. There's a couple of audio mp3s on this too, 'Cutswift There U step', a funked up mix of Pink's 'There U go', and 'Queasyrider Why so ugly', which mixes various bits and pieces together to create an electro synthpop hip hop number, or something. This is an interesting project, innovative in its use of ever more easily available digital video producers, as well as fairly good at mixing tracks, even if their choices make minimal sense at times! This CDRom is, pure and simply, nuts. The CD contains two mp3 files and two mpeg video files and is the next step in bootleg remixes. Forget just audio samples pasted together, this extends the concept to video. So you get to watch the reconstructed images along with some of the weirdest mixes. The 'bootleg video mix' itself is just over 24 minutes long and mixes a truly eclectic selection of tracks together. There's too much here to go into in detail, but suffice it to say, anything that mixes NWA's 'Straight outta Compton' together with Britney's 'Hit me baby…' or Dorothy and the Munchkins from "The Wizard of Oz" with Q-Tip has to been seen/heard to believe. Some of the less completely weird mixes are quite funky, like the Cure with Missy Miss Elliot, or a stonking mix of Destiny's Child's 'Independent Woman' with a double bass sound lifted from someone I don't recognise, or Dr Dre's 'Forgot about Dre' and Kylie's 'Can't get you out of my head' mixed together with Soft Cell's 'Tainted Love'.
